Cost: $15 all admissions
Brought to you in association with Boulder Shambhala Center and Naropa University
We are thrilled to welcome Judith Simmer-Brown Ph.D., as one of our 2012 Guest Speakers. Judith has been Professor of Religious Studies at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado since 1978. She has practiced Tibetan Buddhism for forty years, guides the Ngedon School, serves on the steering committee of the American Academy of Religion’s Buddhist Critical-Constructive Reflection group and has been a member of the Board of Directors of Shambhala International since 1995.
Infusing intellectual investigation with intuition and heart, Judith’s courses balance theory and practice, study and personal exploration, intellectual investigation and meditation. She has been instrumental in helping to move the field of Religious Studies to embrace both the intellectual and the experiential study of religion, and is a powerful spokeswoman for increasing the general awareness and understanding of non-Western religions. Judith has also been at the forefront of the move towards a greater appreciation of the influence of meditation practice on learning, and has written well-received books on this topic, as well as on the teachings of feminine principle.
Judith is devoted in her work of how to get people to tap into and to appreciate the goodness that comes when we honor each other in society, and is passionate about the power of shared vision in community and of doing work that we love.

* Synopsis: Judith’s talk will focus on the creation of an enlightened society in our local community of Boulder and the Front Range, based on a combination of both Buddhist and Shambhala teachings. By “enlightened society” Judith is referring to a society that is cognisant of, recognizes and honors the basic goodness of each member in that society.
