Happy New Year!  It’s 2012 and people think time is running out, but I don’t buy it.  I subscribe to the theory that the Mayans just ran out of space on their calendar, commissioned a new one later on, and we just haven’t found it yet…so we’ve got plenty of time, and lots to look forward to!

With the success of the LADmatters Festival last fall comes the promise of many exciting things to come this year.  As with most things, it’s not without change…Natural Transitions and Rock Rose–who brought you LADmatters–have decided to pursue their passions separately.  This is a good thing…where once there was one wonderful event there is now the potential for many.  Think about it…The Beatles went their separate ways over 40 years ago, and the individual members–pursuing their passions–continued on to make much great music.  The band name wasn’t there anymore, but everyone knew that each project by their former members had a Beatle legacy.  With LAD, the same will happen.  Some things are cosmetic…for instance, Natural Transitions will be keeping the LAD name since they had a hand in creating it–Rock Rose will keep the “sunny guy” logo since it came from their archives.  This division was done so both groups can keep the legacy of that first magical festival alive as we all step into the future and bring you new and exciting projects to make you laugh, cry, and think.  So, where once there was one band, now there are two (and possibly more in the future) to bring you great events…we hope to see you there!

The BolderLife Festival is in the planning stages for September…film submissions have now opened on Withoutabox with many entries already received.  We’re in the process of lining up great speakers, educational seminars, music, theatre, and much, much more!  It’s gonna be fantastic, and in the meantime we have other monthly events in the works to keep you entertained until then.  First up is Bolder Nights…theatre, music, and art all rolled up into several great evenings of fun.  Those of you familiar with Hitching Post Theatre know what I mean…those were great evenings with music and several plays that were written, rehearsed, and performed all in one day.  Bolder Nights expands on that format…there will be art, music, 2 plays produced Hitching Post-style, and a new addition we call Bolder Serial.  Bolder Serial is a 3-part play (one part per month), that will tell a story with your input–after each installment we will talk to YOU about where you would like to see the next episode go…your chance to influence the fate of our (actually, YOUR) characters! 

We hope you will join us Feburary 12th and beyond for this evening of fun!  Also, we are planning an evening in May (as with all of our monthly events, most likely the second Sunday of the month) called BolderLife Films.  This will be sort of a mini-BolderLife Festival film event, where we will present one or more films on a timely subject and bring in panelists (including the filmmakers and subject experts) to host a discussion on the topic at hand.  Those of you who made it to LAD last year know how illuminating that can be, and we hope you can join us for this event.
